When we get out of the glass bottles of our ego,
and when we escape like squirrels turning in the
cages of our personality
and get into the forests again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don't know ourselves.

Cool, unlying life will rush in,
and passion will make our bodies taut with power,
we shall stamp our feet with new power
and old things will fall down,
we shall laugh, and institutions will curl up like
burnt paper.

I lost myself wandering among the tents, sorting through copious mounds of vintage clothing, filing through rows of salvaged steel components, sidling among rows of train station benches, staring longingly at the perfect Danish industrial fixtures, and reveling in the chaotic wonder of it all.

Purchases:

Buck skull: (soaking in peroxide outside my front door.)

Guitar: (missing 2 strings, smells like old lady perfume.)

1930’s safety glasses: (at the opticians for some lens love.)

Bear skin winter hat: (pretty much perfect. bring it WINTER.)

Vintage silk slip: (can one ever have enough delicate silky things? i think not.)

Underwriters Laboratories portable lamp: (geek style illumination.)

Vintage L.L. Bean Blanket: (like I said, bring it.)

LAST THINGS LAST
THE MANIFESTO

Thomas Edison said "Genius is one percent inspiration and
ninety-nine percent perspiration." Without the one percent of
inspiration, all the perspiration in the world is only a bucket of sweat.

Design is better than fine art.
Designers are self-centered, but at least they know it.
Design must be playful, but is to be considered seriously.
Work hard, play hard, do both at the same time.
Designers dispose and propose.
Design should be strategically thoughtful.

Never just do it, sometimes just do it, do it quick, do it right.
Never feel comfortable. Take risks. Produce original work.
The world is only black and white, there are no greys.
Burn your idols on a stick, and all your work while you're at it.

Fuck design, let's dance.
Yes, go ahead, take the last cookie.

I made these bracelets last week and I think they're the C O O L E S T. Full stop... on second thought my ipad eclipses all other things I own as number one THING. I am still, after a few weeks of ownership, completely blown away by what this sleek little sucker can do. This genus of Macintosh hardware will change the way we interact with the world in ways we can't even comprehend at the moment. The future is wide open in the app arena, I believe we've only seen the tip of the iceberg here. I love being able to access my Dwell and Wallpaper without having to go anywhere or do anything, love scribbling notes on Penultimate and sending to my loved ones as digital emails, love the NPR app because I can choose what news to listen to. Reading on the ipad is also quite enjoyable and can be done in the dark because the screen is back lit. Vogue needs to get on board here. Also, can someone design a decent looking and functioning calendar?

Moleskin get on that... paper is (almost) passe.

From top to bottom:
Neptune and it's moon Triton, Uranus, Mars

The only thing I actually remember from 2nd grade (besides Marcus, the boy who would pull my ponytail while I wasn't looking and then pretend it wasn't him) was a special report we did on the planets. My planet was Neptune, named after the Roman god of the sea, with little moon Triton always by it's side.

A few days ago I finished my tinysaur. It took some serious tweezer action and some badass miniature model glue but I'm completely taken with the results. Everytime I see it on the windowsill I get a oooooooh LA LA LOVE feeling. Yes, I'm in love with my miniature paper dinosaur skeleton, and what's even better? He only eats microbial dust particles so I don't have to worry about feeding him. Oh yeah.

Other things that are notable and just plain rock my world:

The new Yeasayer album. How did I miss this when it was released back in February? I was totally smitten with 2080 and Sunrise off their debut album and now am equally head over heals with O.N.E. on their new album Odd Blood. I can't get enough of it!! It's playing on repeat until I get sick of it.

Play, my minimal and eco friendly (hate that phrase but it's better than eco chic, seriously all of these eco words will be irrelevant as soon as we realize that sustainable production is the only way to go) was written up by Daily Candy last Friday, a true testament to the power of well done PR. The response has been overwhelming to say the least. Thank you Daily Candy!

After ten hours of trying
the instructor undid
my fingers, peeled
them one by one
off the joystick.
"You don't need
to hold the plane
in the air," he advised.
"It's designed to fly.
A hint of aileron,
a touch of rudder,
is all that is required."

I looked at him
like I'd seen God.
Those props and struts
he mentioned, they too,
I realized, all contrived.
I grew dizzy
from the elevation
from looking so far
down at the surmise:
the airspeed of faith
underlies everything.
Lives are designed
to fly.
